Some journals use continuous pagination between issues in a volume. For example, Vol 30, Issue 1 might have pages numbered 1-184; Vol 30, Issue 2 might have pages 185-344, etc. This allows the separate issues from a completed volume to be bound together into a book, for ease of storing and reviewing past issues.
